Listen to Bach’s Orchestral Suite: Human
When you listen to this suite, no, don’t treat it as serious music. His music is simple, so superbly simple. The essence of musical thought reaches as perfect expression as possible. Everything you hear may make you tremble with admiration.
Let’s start from the very beginning — the suite I. The Overture’s fast section contains a magnificent dialogue between the instrumental groups. The Courante moves quietly and fluently. Then we come to the Gavotte. The boisterous Bourree is folIowed by the Passepied, a dance which is reminiscent of a menuet. Is this nothing more than a beautiful melody?
One of the best-known Baroque suites for orchestra is Suite No. 3 by Bach. The orchestra consists of first violins, second violins, violas, and cellos, with double basses doubling the cello part), keyboard, two oboes, three trumpets, and timpani. It begins with a long G. When you listen to the sound of the violin, you will find it likes a woman speaking sadly.
Bach is in some sense a logician for the balance he achieved. His music can transcend the trappings o cultural bias, yet some people find all Bach stuffy. Some may say it is inexorable. In fact, everything is simple, so superbly simple. It gives us a mood of serenity with the great sense of beauty in his music? We can simply use “Human” to describe his music.
How can you resist his range of celebration, his dance of joy, and his melancholy orchestral Suites?
